we moved into our new Squamish home.

Even though we were filled with excitement and pride I realized we had a clunky old electric furnace that sounded like a jet taking off.

When I received my first electric bill, I nearly choked.

Trying to fall asleep with the deafening noise of that furnace cycling on and off all night was a struggle.

One day I stopped hearing our furnace and realized how much I had been taking it for granted. Unfortunately, our furnace failed completely, leaving us without heat during a cold spell. That's when I made the decision to upgrade to a high-efficiency heat pump.

Let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Finally we had peace of mind that our heating would be reliable. After installing air conditioning for others for so many years - i finally had it myself! And of course the bonus was the extra storage space we gained by taking the furnace out!

Now, after 10 years of worry-free operation (thanks in part to regular maintenance), our heat pump still runs as smoothly as the day I installed it.

Simon and the team at Porcupine Mechanical have been excellent to work with. We began the process of navigating the government grant programs some time ago, meeting with a number of HVAC providers. Simon took the time to understand our needs and design a system that worked well for our home. He reviewed our Energy Audit report and collected more information than the other HVAC companies we obtained quotes from, which gave me the confidence that we were getting the right system for our home. I felt that I could trust Simon completely and didn't need to worry about getting taken advantage of, getting the wrong equipment, or being overcharged. He was very understanding of the delays with the government funding and managed to schedule us in as quickly as possible, despite us having to delay the start time a few times. He was able to recommend an electrician to help us with the electrical upgrade necessary as well. The installation was quick and efficient, with minimal impact to our home. & we got it in time for some hot weather, and can happily attest that it does a great job of keeping our home cool!! Our heat pump journey has been long and filled with many ups and downs, especially with the complexity of strata approval in our community. Being the first to navigate this process added an extra layer of difficulty. Over the years, we had about half a dozen contractors come through to provide quotes, but things stalled without strata approval.
